ISABELLA TURNBULL [BRYDEN]
(1795-1870) Isabella was born June 1795 in Hobkirk,Roxburgh, Scotland and would have been age 25 in 1820. On 5 February 1829 Isabella married John Bryden, son of Walter and Agness Hislope Bryden, in the district of Montreal, Quebec, Canada. (Earlier family history handed down states that Isabella married Walter Bryden).
Isabella and John lived in Ormstown, Chateauguay, Quebec, raising four children.
Isabella died 16 March 1870 and John died 14 March 1879. According to church records they were both buried in Ormstown Cemetery which was behind the Presbyterian Church but records were not kept for the cemetery. Years ago the Chateauguay River, which runs behind the church and cemetery, washed away much of the cemetery and the remaining graves were transferred to the now Union Cemetery. No Brydens are listed in the Union Cemetery records.
Isabella's four children were:
1) Walter married Isabella Watherson in 1851 and they had twelve children. (One of their sons came to the United States settling in Oklahoma.) Walter was a merchant. No death records have been found on Walter but his wife, Isabella was buried in Valleyfield, Beauharnois, Quebec.
2) Thomas worked on the family farm until age 21 but no other information has been found on him.
3) John, a farmer, married Agnes Selkirk in 1865 and they were the parents of seven children. After his father's death in 1879, John moved his family to Mersea, Essex, Ontario. He died in 1913 and was buried in Leamington, Essex, Ontario.
4) Sarah married John Douglas, a farmer, in 1860 and they had five children. She died in 1872 and was buried in Elma, Perth, Ontario.
